Welcome to the MFD Writing Center [video]

by Sabrina Z.

Hello, gentle readers!

New years bring new adventures, and the MFD WC has ventured into the world of video.

Take a look at our new intro video:

We do apologize for it’s blurry nature. This is our first try with video and we hope to launch more throughout the semester.

We are also attaching the original intro presentation for our center here:  Writing Center Intro Fall 15

And for those wondering about WC Online, the online scheduling platform that we use for the Writing, Peer Tutoring, and Math Centers, we are throwing in instructions for registering a profile and booking a session here: Email instructions for using MYWCONLINE

To go with the above instructions, check out our WC Online playlist on our YouTube page for tutorial videos for registering a profile, scheduling a face-to-face session, and scheduling an eTutoring session:

Tuesday Reviews-day will be back next week with a Retro Edition review of the 1986 David Bowie cult-classic, Labyrinth.

Welcome back for Spring 2016! We look forward to working with you all!

Update for My WC Online Profiles

Just a quick announcement for using the My WC Online scheduler.

In order to better serve all students at the different Our Lady of the Lake campuses, please update your user information, to reflect your specific location.

To update your user profile in My WC Online, simply do the following:

1. Hover your cursor over your name, which is located in the upper left corner of the schedule page. Once you hover over your name, a new box should appear and you should see an option labeled “Update Profile and E-Mail Options.”

2. The next step is to locate the “Demographics” menu, located in the third major box, second category inside the box.

3. Next, use the pull down menu and locate your current status. Because there are multiple categories and options for categorization, please only select one category. While you may be an Undergraduate student and a part of the SSS Program, you should only consider yourself as a member of the SSS Program for demographic purposes. Similarly, if you are a Graduate Student at the Woodlands Campus, only count yourself as a member of The Woodlands.

If this is confusing to you, please accept our apologies, but we want to do our best to maintain up-to-date records in order to improve the services provided to you as a student.

Please feel free to contact us via phone, e-mail, or in-person, and we will do our best to walk you through the process or answer any questions that you have.

However, you must be currently enrolled in My WC Online in order for us to assist in this process.

Once again, we thank you for your understanding and cooperation in this matter.  🙂

Introduction to the MFD Writing Center Presentation

by Sabrina C. Zertuche

Good Afternoon, Everyone!

If we have ever visited a class that you were in, you might have seen our intro presentation about the center and the staff.

Well, we like this presentation so much that we want to share it with the universe.

Here it is: PROMOTIONAL About the MFD Writing Center UPDATED 10_1_14

The presentation covers what we do here at the MFDWC, who we are, and how you can follow one of our many social media accounts.

Also, and a rather important fact, the presentation contains step-by-step instructions to signing up for WC Online and the link to the website. Even if you are not planning to visit the center soon, please register a profile with WC Online so that you can view our schedule, as well as Tutoring Services’ schedule.

Feel free to download/save our presentation for future use. We created it especially for you.

Happy Writing To You All!!

Tutorial Videos for My WC Online

By Sabrina C. Zertuche

Good Afternoon, Everyone!

The MFDWC consultants have been busy little bees.

Behold, we have for you four videos that provide real-time examples of how to register your profile on the My WC Online and schedule in-person, online, and E-Tutoring (Phone Consultations) appointments.

1.  In video #1, you will learn how to create your account for My WC Online, which you can use to set up appointments at the MFD Writing Center.

2.  Video #2 shows you the various features in My WC Online. It does not include how to set up appointments.

**Note: If using your smartphone to watch, the sound may be too loud. It’s preferable that you use your computer or laptop.

3.  In video #3, OLLUSA students can learn how to set up face to face appointments with consultants at the MFD Writing Center.

4.  Video #4 covers using My WC Online. In this video you will learn how to set up E-Tutoring*** appointments and attaching documents.

**NOTE** The MFD Writing Center is on Central time; therefore, the hours on the screen are on Central time.

***E-Tutoring is now the term we will be using for Phone Consultations.  Be advised, Phone Consultations are now called E-Tutoring.

If you have any questions or concerns about the My WC Online or the sign-up process, please contact the Writing Center.

Happy Writing to you all!
